A veterinary practice in Towcester seeks enthusiastic recent veterinary graduates for a 12-month equine internship starting Summer 2026. Interns will receive hands-on clinical training, extensive exposure across varied cases, and robust mentorship from an experienced team. The internship features a balanced rota, attractive benefits including a salary of £25,000, accommodation, private healthcare, and a CPD allowance. This is an excellent opportunity for motivated individuals eager to develop a career in equine practice.
An established independent mixed practice, proudly RCVS-accredited and spread across four sites in and around the historic town of Towcester, Northamptonshire, is inviting applications for its 12-month Equine Internship Programme starting in Summer 2026.
With a reputation for delivering high‑quality veterinary care with a personal touch, the practice is home to a warm, supportive, and forward‑thinking team.
Their equine services are based at a fully equipped hospital site offering comprehensive inpatient facilities, including a surgical theatre and dedicated reproduction services with an indoor stallion collection facility. A second, modern equine clinic in Warwickshire further enhances their clinical capabilities.
This is a full‑time, structured programme designed for new and recent veterinary graduates who are keen to build a strong foundation for a successful equine career. Interns will join a team of 11 experienced vets—including certificate holders in medicine and surgery—alongside a skilled and committed nursing team. A trained VetGDP Advisor supports each intern throughout the year, ensuring smooth completion of the VetGDP requirements.
The internship offers an excellent balance of hands‑on experience, mentorship, and professional development. Interns will enhance their diagnostic and therapeutic skills through a well‑supported, practical approach that can be tailored to individual clinical interests.
Working with a diverse caseload of leisure and competition horses, interns will be actively involved in:
Clinical development is further supported through regular rotations: one week ambulatory followed by one week in‑clinic, with participation in a 1‑in‑2 weekend and weeknight on‑call rota. Interns will also gain valuable experience in reproduction work during late Spring and Summer 2027, working closely with the dedicated reproduction vet on fertility assessments, stallion collection, and semen processing.
The practice encourages collaboration and reflective learning through frequent Clinical Club meetings, case discussions, and morbidity and mortality rounds.
The team is seeking motivated, enthusiastic graduates who are ready to embrace the opportunity, work hard, and make the most of a highly supportive environment. Successful past interns have been proactive, inquisitive, and keen to seek guidance while recognising and addressing gaps in their skill set. Strong communication skills, resilience, and a genuine passion for equine practice are key to thriving in this role.
For those interested, the practice is happy to arrange an informal, honest conversation with a current intern.
