Job description

I'm hiring on behalf of a Local Authority situated in Kent, the Garden of England, who are a seeking an Environmental Health Officer to join their Food Safety team for an initial 3 month contract.

About the role:

Environmental Health Officer (Food)

Location - Kent

Contact length – 3 months (with the view to extend)

Rate - £40-£50 per hour or £50-£65 per inspection.

Working arrangements – Open to full time or part time. Evening and weekend work is permitted.

Your role and responsibility:
  • Carry out complex and high-risk food hygiene inspections and investigations.
  • Review casework, notices, and enforcement actions to ensure consistency, legal compliance, and service quality.
  • Manage service requests, complaints, and serious incidents, ensuring timely and proportionate responses.
  • Investigate infectious disease notifications.

You must have a proven track record of conducting food inspections, enforcement experience is desirable but not essential and Local Authority experience is essential.

Qualifications:
  • A degree/diploma in Environmental Health
  • EHRB Registered/Chartered
  • Higher Certificate in Food Safety/Food Control
