Job Description

M&J seeks an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist to oversee construction of a new federal agency building in Maryland. The successful candidate will manage all EHS aspects to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and industry best practices.

Overview

The EHS Specialist will serve as the onsite representative overseeing environmental, health, and safety for a large federal construction project in the Washington DC area. Responsibilities include implementing effective EHS plans and policies and ensuring their adherence.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform daily on-site inspections of construction operations to ensure compliance with EM 385-1-1, report issues, and recommend corrective actions to the COR.
  2. Ensure all personnel comply with Site, Safety, and Occupational Health (SSOH) requirements, report deficiencies, and suggest solutions.
  3. Review Accident Prevention Plans and prepare findings reports for the COR.
  4. Review Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) and report findings to the COR.
  5. Coordinate and participate in Quality Management and Safety inspections, report findings and deficiencies, and recommend corrective actions.
  6. Assist and advise field personnel on safety duties and report findings to the COR.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Safety, or related field (preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in EHS management, especially in large-scale construction projects.
  • Deep knowledge of OSHA, EPA regulations, and federal safety standards.
  • Experience leading safety initiatives and training programs on construction sites.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills to manage multiple safety activities and teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with regulatory agencies and project teams.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP or CIH are preferred.
