Job Description

Our purpose is to deliver energy to the world, today and tomorrow. For over 100 years, bp has focused on discovering, developing, and producing oil and gas in the nations where we operate. We are one of the few companies globally that can provide governments and customers with an integrated energy offering. Delivering our strategy sustainably is fundamental to achieving our ambition to be a net zero company by 2050 or sooner.

Let me tell you about the role

As an Enterprise Risk Analyst, you will contribute to bp's enterprise-wide Risk Management and Internal Control Framework by generating high-quality insight, strengthening corporate risk reporting, and supporting risk governance across bp's global portfolio.

You will operate as a future-focused, AI-literate risk analyst, blending analytical skill, human judgement, and visual storytelling to support clear and forward-looking risk insight for bp's Leadership Team, Audit Committee and Board. The role offers broad exposure across bp's businesses and functions and is an excellent development pathway within risk, strategy, finance, governance, and transformation.

What you will deliver (Key Outcomes)
Risk Framework, Governance & Reporting

You will:

  • Support the design, maintenance, and continuous improvement of bp's Risk Management & Internal Control Framework, including policies, procedures, guidance, templates, and training materials.
  • Contribute to the biannual enterprise-wide risk reporting cycle, coordinating with risk focal points across businesses and functions.
  • Assist in drafting mid-year and end-year corporate risk reports for the Group Financial Risk Committee, bp Leadership Team, Audit Committee, and Board.
  • Support the Material Control Effectiveness and Significant Failings & Weaknesses reporting processes, including preparation of evidence for FRC Provision 29.
  • Maintain bp's Principal Risk Register, Emerging Risk Register, Material Control Register, and Assurance Map, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and insight.
Risk Systems, Data Quality, Taxonomies & Digital Enablement

You will:

  • Support the team to challenge and improve bp's Risk Management Information Systems (i.e., nova), ensuring they contain the mandatory minimum data required for corporate reporting and external disclosure.
  • Build, maintain, and continuously improve risk and control taxonomies, data dictionaries, terminology standards, and metadata structures.
  • Conduct data cleansing, validation and preparation activities to support accurate risk reporting and enable stronger trend, outlier, and anomaly detection.
  • Help design and evolve dashboards, structured datasets, and digital workflows to modernise bp's risk processes and improve user experience.
Insight, Analytics, Emerging Risk & Scenario Work

You will:

  • Operate as an AI-literate analyst, using AI-enabled tools for data synthesis, horizon scanning, anomaly detection, summarisation, and workflow acceleration - while applying human judgement to validate quality and relevance.
  • Conduct AI-assisted horizon scanning, identifying early signals and emerging risks across geopolitics, regulation, technology, markets, climate and society. Liaising with internal SMEs to triangulate impact and relevance to bp.
  • Support the development of visual risk narratives, including dashboards, thematic maps, predictive analytics, and scenario-based insights for senior stakeholders.
  • Contribute to scenario analysis, long-term viability assessments, principal risk trending, and thematic deep dives commissioned by senior leadership.
  • Act as a quality-control checkpoint for AI-generated outputs, ensuring accuracy, credibility, and alignment with bp's enterprise risk standards.
Engagement, Collaboration & Influence

You will:

  • Support workshops, capture qualitative insights, and translate discussions into actionable intelligence.
  • Prepare Board- and Executive-ready briefing packs, supporting clear and concise narrative on principal and emerging risks.
  • Build strong working relationships with bp's risk, control and assurance communities and contribute to knowledge-sharing, consistency, and capability building across the organisation.
  • Support risk business partnering across functions and business units, helping to integrate risk with strategy, performance, and decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain clear risk communication channels (e.g., Teams / SharePoint site, newsletters, Viva Engage / Yammer updates, Communities of Practice) to strengthen awareness, capability and consistency across bp's global risk community.
What you need to be successful
Technical Skills
  • Working knowledge of enterprise risk management and internal controls concepts and frameworks (ISO 31000, COSO ERM, COSO ICIF).
  • Understanding of UK Corporate Governance Code (including Section 4, Principle O, Provisions 28 and 29) and awareness of SEC-relevant disclosure expectations.
  • Understanding of bp's system of internal control, controls framework, including material controls, control effectiveness assessment, and barrier health concepts.
  • Strong analytical and data skills, including trend analysis, data validation, and visualisation (Excel, Power BI or similar).
  • Familiarity with risk systems/GRC tools (experience with nova and/or ServiceNow/SNOW is beneficial).
  • Ability to synthesise complex qualitative and quantitative information into clear narrative insight.
  • Exposure to scenario analysis, emerging risk themes, and multi-disciplinary signals (geopolitical, regulatory, digital/cyber, climate, market).
  • Understanding of bp's organizational structure, risk operating model, and risk management and internal control framework (e.g., bp risk policy, processes, roles and responsibilities).
AI & Digital Literacy
  • Ability to use AI tools for horizon scanning, summarisation, predictive analytics, and workflow automation.
  • Awareness of AI limitations - able to evaluate accuracy, identify bias, and validate outputs.
  • Confidence working with modern digital tools, data structures, dashboards, and automated reporting workflows.
Human Strengths
  • Strong judgement, integrity, and the ability to operate with incomplete information.
  • Clear communication and visual storytelling skills - able to turn complexity into clarity for senior audiences.
  • Collaboration and relationship-building across a matrixed organisation.
  • Curiosity, adaptability, and comfort with ambiguity and change.
  • Ability to influence and constructively challenge to improve quality and consistency.
Education & Experience
  • Experience in analytical or risk-related experience (risk, audit, internal controls, data analysis, finance, compliance).
  • Strong interest in developing a career within enterprise risk and resilience.
  • Progress toward qualifications such as the IRM Certificate, ISO 31000 Practitioner, or MoR Foundation is helpful but not essential.
Who you will work with

You will work closely with:

  • The Group / Enterprise Risk Team (Framework, Policy, Reporting, Business Partnering)
  • Risk focal points across all bp entities
  • Finance, Strategy & Sustainability, S&ORA, Technology, Internal Audit, Legal, & Compliance
  • Senior contributors involved in risk submissions, principal risks, controls, and emerging risk reviews

You will join a supportive, inclusive team committed to modernizing enterprise risk management through insight, technology, and leadership engagement.
