Salary: £168-£232 per day

Overview

TeacherActive is working with an well-known and well-respected mainstream secondary school in the Derby area. The school has high aspirations and offers fantastic support to all of its staff.

The school is looking to take on an English teacher starting in January 2026 on a long‑term, full‑time cover for the remainder of the 2025/6 academic year. The successful applicant will be working across both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, including exam preparation for GCSEs, and the role will also include some Drama lessons.

Responsibilities

The role will be paramount in helping students achieve excellent results in the subject, whilst following and implementing the schemes of learning.

Candidate Profile

• A graduate with qualified teacher status.
• An outstanding teacher in English, with a strong teaching record.
• Relevant qualifications (both formal and through appropriate experience) to meet the challenge of the appointment.
• Excellent in‑depth knowledge of the place of the English curriculum in the development of young people and of the place within the wider curriculum; an understanding of the importance of a rigorous reading strategy to ensure students' confidence and reading fluency.
