Engineering Safety Manager

Location: Manchester

Salary: Between £60,000 - £75,000 negotiable dependant on experience

Summary

A leading provider in the rail freight and intermodal logistics sector, is seeking an experienced engineering Safety & Sustainability Manager to join their team on full time permanent basis and provide expert guidance and support to their engineering colleagues and drive continuous improvement across the Vehicle Maintenance Facilities and wider engineering function.

This role is crucial in supporting the management of risk, improving sustainability practices and driving operational excellence within engineering.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead safety improvement initiatives and drive a positive safety culture across the engineering function.
- Develop and implement safety & sustainability strategies aligned with company objectives.
- Act as a trusted advisor and critical friend to engineering teams and senior leaders.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, embedding a learning culture.
- Develop safety reports and KPIs, using data to identify trends and drive improvements.
- Conduct audits and inspections, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Act as an advisor and change leader, influencing best practices and decision-making.

Seeking someone with

- Experience in rail engineering, transport, or other safety-critical industries.
- Level 6 or 7 qualification in a relevant field.
- Membership in a professional safety body (chartered or working towards).
- Strong data analysis and reporting skills to track safety trends.
- Ability to influence and challenge leadership teams to drive cultural change.
- A proactive mindset with a passion for continual improvement and sustainability.
- Willingness to travel across the UK as required.
