About the role

Our Balfour Beatty Highways business has a terrific opportunity for an Engineering Manager to join our £1.2 billion Lower Thames Crossing project, consisting of 43 bridges, including viaducts, 17km of complex highways construction, complex utility diversions, and a scheme-wide, industry leading approach to carbon reduction. Balfour Beatty Highways maintain, manage and operate major highway networks across the UK and support local authorities creating communities where people want to live, work and play. As an Engineering Manager, you will be tasked with providing engineering and design management, strong leadership and control of a multi-disciplinary team comprising engineering resources at project level.

What you\'ll be doing
  • Leads on engineering solution development for various disciplines to optimise value engineering during the solution/design development phase
  • Ensures build ability and safety reviews are undertaken during all stages of the design
  • Ensures Temporary Works are integrated within the development of the scheme design
  • Provides technical support for the commercial team during the procurement process
  • Supports the Quality team to ensure compliance with the specifications is achieved
  • Contributes to engineering programme/progress reporting on a fortnightly and long-term basis
  • Continually reviews the design to identify opportunities for improvements and efficiencies that improve productivity and provide cost savings
  • Sets and aligns targets and KPIs in line with budget forecast
  • Manages the design change process to minimise cost impact and inform the commercial team of potential changes and the implications
Who we\'re looking for
  • Takes ownership of tasks and communicates outcomes with clarity, direction and purpose, including managing others in this regard
  • Experience in solution development and value engineering
  • Experience in Design Co-ordination and Temporary works design
  • Experience in the management of a wide range of construction operations both technology and Civils, including phasing and contingency planning, together with testing and handover
  • Demonstrable experience on civils major projects
  • Strong work ethic and management skills
  • Civil Engineering Degree or HND
  • Holds a current driving license/CSCS Card
