Job description
Job Advert

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented chartered engineer to play a key leadership role in the delivery of a broad range of civil engineering schemes within the Engineering Design Unit of Falkirk Council.

You'll take overall responsibility for managing and allocating the resources available to the service - assigning budgets, deploying staff or commissioning services to ensure high-quality programmes that represent good value for money, meet legislative requirements and support first-class infrastructure for our communities.

This is a role with plenty of opportunity to do things differently. You will be encouraged to pursue commercial opportunities for the service, and to work more holistically with other service areas to enable us to simplify processes, share resources better and tailor our approach around the things that matter most to the public.

It's a highly visible service, so it's essential that you can manage the customer and stakeholder engagement that is an integral part of the role, as well as bringing the relevant technical and professional qualifications and experience. We expect that you will be educated to degree standard with membership of an approved professional body, and that you already have senior management experience in a related setting. Accomplished people management skills will be an important attribute for the postholder.

You will have good organisational and mentoring skills, along with experience of managing a team and associated budgets. You will be IT literate, have good interpersonal and report writing skills, with an ability to work as part of a wider management team.

You are required to be flexible, innovative and reactive to public demands and pressure.
