Job description

We are looking to recruit an endoscopy full time staff nurse to join our dynamic and skilled team working in endoscopy. It is desirable that applicants have previous acute hospital setting experience, however full training will be given if necessary.

We are looking for a good team player, who has a willingness to learn and develop new skills.

Our endoscopy unit consists of 4 rooms . The procedures carried out are varied and include Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, PEG insertion, Endoscopic stenting and Bronchoscopy for outpatients and inpatients (when required). The unit also provides recovery facilities.

The successful candidate will be required to work 2 days a week which could include evenings and weekends.

Informal visits are welcomed.

Main duties of the job

To provide high standard of nursing care, and to actively participate in and contribute to the management of the Endoscopy Unit.

The post holder is also expected to carry out all relevant forms of care with/without direct supervision, following appropriate training and will be required to demonstrate procedures to qualified and unqualified staff.

Participate in the maintenance of endoscopes and other specialized equipment used in endoscopic and non-endoscopic procedures and provide technical assistance during such procedures.

Job responsibilities

Be accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating programmes of individual patient care.

Undertake risk assessments to the patients that are going to have endoscopic procedures.

Undertake nursing assessments, obtaining a detailed past medical history and ordering appropriate clinical investigations.

The post holder will be participating in the out of hours on-call rota for Gastrointestinal Bleed rota.

Undertake face to face and telephone pre assessment in the absence of the pre assessment nurse to ensure patients are appropriately assess for the procedure, offering support and advice as appropriate.

Knowledge & Experience
  • Knowledge of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance & a commitment to clinical supervision
  • Knowledge of the individual's responsibility
  • Substantial previous and current experience in taking care of acute and critically ill patient in a specialist acute care unit e.g. ITU, emergency, HDU and acute medical unit
  • Previous and current experience in endoscopy
