About your new role
Our market-leading Employment, Pensions and Immigration team advises employers across the UK on all aspects of employment, pensions, and immigration law. We are seeking a full-time advocate to cover Employment Tribunal hearings, from case management preliminary hearings to multi-day full-merits hearings, both in-person and via video.
The position can be based at any of our offices. However, it involves travel to cover hearings throughout the UK, with travel limited where possible.
As an Employment Advocate, your responsibilities will include:
- Managing a caseload of employment work, primarily covering employment tribunal hearings such as:
- Multi-day discrimination, whistleblowing, and detriment cases
- Unfair dismissal and wages cases
- Contentious preliminary hearings (jurisdiction, disability, applications, etc.)
- Case management preliminary hearings (to a lesser extent)
Additional responsibilities include:
- Providing employment law advice to a diverse range of clients on issues like unfair dismissal, disciplinary matters, grievances, whistleblowing, discrimination, detriment claims, and equal pay
- Supervising and managing team members' caseloads as appropriate
- Drafting and preparing documents, tribunal responses, bundles, witness statements, and reports
- Drafting articles and legal updates
- Assisting with business development, including training and networking
- Producing monthly and ad-hoc client MI reports
- Working in line with client and internal SLAs
- Adhering to Weightmans’ values and procedures
- Achieving set financial and chargeable targets
About You
You should have previous experience and a genuine interest in employment tribunal advocacy. The ideal candidate will have:
- 3+ years qualified solicitor
- Experience in employment tribunal advocacy, including multi-day hearings
- Strong teamwork skills
- Attention to detail
- Excellent technical knowledge
- Good communication skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize
- Capability to meet strict deadlines and targets
- Flexible approach
