About Tax Advisory at FTI

We are an independent expert led tax practice that sits within the Corporate Finance practice of FTI Consulting. We provide corporate business tax advisory services to leading private equity and infrastructure fund houses, FTSE 100/listed groups, international funds and major corporations across a broad suite of tax services and technical specialisms. We have definitive expertise across many areas of tax and take pride in taking a pragmatic and commercial approach to advising clients. Our senior management team members are leaders in their field, and includes tax, accounting, legal, valuations, and technology experts, and economists.

About The Role

FTI Consulting has a successful and rapidly growing employment tax and reward advisory business, providing technically minded but commercially focused and pragmatic advice. Our services include all aspects of tax and reward issues for employers such as payroll health checks, due diligence, assisting with HMRC enquiries, providing advice on expense and benefits arrangements (including PAYE settlement agreements, termination payments, disguised remuneration, employment rated share schemes), employment status and off-payroll worker issues. We also provide advice and support for international issues (such as non-resident directors, short term business visitors, international assignment planning, and specialised payroll arrangements such as modified and shadow payrolls). We also support employers in creating attractive reward packages, aiding with the planning, implementation, and operation of share schemes, and carried interest / promote arrangements.

The employment tax and reward business help clients across the whole of the FTI tax advisory team and therefore covers a wide range of sectors, with extensive experience in the life sciences, real estate, and private equity (both at house and portfolio company level).

We are seeking a Director to support the senior team in providing reward and tax advisory services across our clients within the employment tax and reward team with a primary focus on reward led advice.

The role will be highly varied, covering the range of issues above but with a focus on reward (particularly the design, planning, and implementation of management incentive plans). The role will focus primarily on advisory services. The role forms a great link between the employment tax and reward business and the wider tax advisory and corporate finance team and will form a key part of this growing arm of our tax advisory business.

We don’t expect the individual to have experience in every area listed – rather an individual with experience in at least some elements of reward and employment tax, with a keen desire to broaden their experience and gain expertise across the spectrum of employment tax and reward advisory services we provide.

What You’ll Do

1. Supporting the senior team with reward advisory, and employment tax advisory, services for our client base
2. Developing our management incentives offering and taking a key role in delivering the design, implementation, and tax advice relating to reward arrangements for our clients
3. Leading due diligence work relating to employment related securities
4. Delegating work to and managing the junior members of the wider employment tax and reward team, and beyond
5. Assisting the senior team with employment tax and reward elements of transaction and advisory projects as required
6. Actively keeping up to date on technical matters and dealing with detailed technical queries raised, coordinating the preparation of practical, robustly supported advice
7. Taking ownership of projects in relation to WIP management and billing
8. Undertaking training both for clients and internally as required

What You Will Need to Succeed

1. Relevant experience of reward and employment tax
2. A good tax technical knowledge in at least some areas of employment related securities, and a desire to broaden this (including into wider employment tax meetings)
3. An ability to communicate (verbal and written) complex technical issues in a straightforward and practical way to tax and non-tax specialists
4. Strong analytical skills and an eye for detail
5. Personable and able to integrate with a team and interact with colleagues of all grades
6. Ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload under pressure
7. Proven ability to take ownership of projects and come to decisions independently whilst being supported by the senior team
8. Demonstrable skills at building and maintaining relationships with colleagues within and outside tax teams
9. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
10. Bachelor’s Degree (2.1) or equivalent
11. ACA, CTA or equivalent qualified
