Job summary

A specialist HR consultancy is looking for an Employee Relations Specialist for an initial 6-month contract. The successful candidate will manage employee relations cases, provide guidance to managers, and support organisational change initiatives. Strong ER skills and up-to-date knowledge of UK employment law are essential. The role is based in Swindon with a flexible working arrangement.

Henlee Resourcing is working in partnership with this niche Business with its HQ in central Swindon (near the train / bus stations or parking), to recruit an experienced Employee Relations Specialist on an initial 6 month FTC. The role can be full time (35 hours) or a min 28 hours be that over 4 or 5 days – also the possibility of a 9 day fortnight. We are looking for you to be working in the office for 3 days per week in central Swindon.

Reporting to and supporting a superb HR Manager, you will partner with managers across the business on the whole array of employee relations case work as well as consultations as a result of restructuring and potential redundancies, ensuring issues are resolved fairly, consistently and in line with employment law and company policy.

About the role and key responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of employee relations matters (e.g., investigations, disciplinary, grievance, capability, absence management, probation and appeals), ensuring fair, consistent and legally compliant outcomes from start to finish
  • Provide sound, risk-based advice and coaching to managers on complex ER issues
  • Draft and review case documentation (e.g. letters, notes, reports)
  • Ensure consistent application of policies and procedures, balancing business needs with fair outcomes
  • Identify potential risks, escalating appropriately with clear recommendations
  • Maintain accurate case records and contribute to HR reporting
  • Support change management processes, including restructures, consultations and organisational development initiatives
  • Support wider HR activity during the change programme as needed

About you and your skills / experience:

  • Strong employee relations skills as well as up to date, practical knowledge of UK employment law, HR best practice and their practical application in an organisational context
  • Demonstrable experience in an ER / HR / people advisory role, providing guidance to managers on the range of employee matters
  • Proven track record of independently managing complex employee relations cases including investigations, disciplinary, grievance, capability, absence management, consultations, restructuring and redundancy
  • Experience of supporting and advising managers and employees during organisational change programmes with a strong focus on supporting the consultation process
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build credibility and influence at all levels
  • Ability to assess risk, balance business needs, employee experience and legal compliance
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Pragmatic, solution-focused mindset
  • Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive issues with discretion
  • Resilient, steady and able to work under pressure
