Overview

Employee Relations Specialist — Location: North London / Hybrid — Rate: £29.79 per hour (Umbrella)

A North London Local Authority is seeking an experienced Employee Relations Specialist to join on an interim basis. The role will provide expert advice and guidance on a wide range of employee relations matters, ensuring compliance with employment law and promoting sound employee relations across the organisation.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver a professional, accurate and timely HR advisory service to managers and staff.
  • Support managers with complex employee relations cases including grievances, disciplinaries, capability, and absence management.
  • Advise on organisational change projects, including restructures and redundancies.
  • Build strong relationships with senior leaders, managers, and trade union representatives.
  • Monitor and update casework schedules and performance data, identifying trends and advising on interventions.
  • Support manager development through coaching, HR training, and workshops.
Experience & Knowledge
  • HR experience in a Local Government or public sector setting, ideally within a unionised, multi-site environment.
  • Strong track record in handling complex ER casework and organisational change.
  • Excellent knowledge of employment law, policies and procedures, and best practice.
  • Skilled in working with trade unions and managing employee relations collaboratively.
  • Understanding of equality, diversity, safeguarding, and their application in ER practice.
  • Confident IT user with experience of Microsoft Office and HR systems.
