Job Summary
ABL Health Ltd is recruiting a Child and Young Person (CYP) Mental Health Support Worker to deliver urgent emotional and safety support across day and evening community settings. The role operates on a rota system, including evenings and weekends, and requires collaboration with families, schools, emergency services and community organisations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead urgent emotional support for CYP presenting significant safety needs in the Haven evening service, including rapid assessment, mood regulation, risk mitigation and de‑escalation.
- Coordinate with Police, Ambulance, ED and CAMHS to agree and document ongoing safety plans for referred CYP.
- Develop and implement individualised care plans for CYP in day services (Hubs), providing evidence‑based therapeutic interventions and education for families and caregivers.
- Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date records of assessments, treatment plans and safeguarding actions in client database packages.
- Participate in regular supervision, peer support and professional development to stay current with best practices in child and adolescent mental health.
- Advocate for CYP mental health needs within the community, raising awareness and reducing stigma.
Qualifications and Experience
- Up to date knowledge of CYP emotional wellbeing and evidence‑based early mental health practice.
- Experience providing direct urgent mental health services within an urgent care setting or working with clients presenting with significant safety needs.
- Experience working in an enhanced need mental health multi‑disciplinary team environment and with external professionals such as emergency services.
- Enhanced DBS check and current UK professional registration.
- Desirable: Relevant NVQ or university qualification; experience delivering training, workshops or group interventions to CYP and parents/carers.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build trust and rapport with CYP, families and professionals.
- Strong de‑escalation, risk assessment and urgent intervention skills.
- Resilience and the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a high‑pressure, fast‑paced environment.
- Cultural competency and sensitivity to the diverse needs of the community.

Salary: £26,500 a year
Contract: Permanent
