Job description
Emergency Department Tracker

Closing Date: 16 December 2025

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic individual to join the Accident and Emergency team at Manchester Royal Infirmary. The ED tracker role is a new role supporting both patients and clinical staff through their MRI experience, whether that be through the Emergency Department (ED) and Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC).

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, a good team player, organised, flexible and able to maintain attention to detail. Enjoy working in a fast‑paced environment, be adaptable and willing to take on various tasks and duties. As the Emergency Department operates 24 hours a day, the successful candidate will be required to work a rotating shift pattern, including overnight shifts.

You will also play an active role in the wider multidisciplinary teams that work across MRI by liaising with different teams to ensure patients progress along their pathway safely and efficiently.

The overall aim of this post is to offer the highest level of care to our patients by supporting the clinicians providing the front‑line care to improve the patient experience and flow throughout the department.

Main duties of the job

Tracking patients from when they enter the department to when they leave by onward referral for further specialist treatment or discharge back to the care of their GP in a timely manner. You will work closely with Medical, Nursing and Managerial colleagues based in the ED and UTC department providing awareness to changes in pressure, capacity and patient flow.

There are a lot of exciting changes happening at the ED department and UTC at Manchester Royal Infirmary over the next few years, including £40M worth of investment in our buildings & infrastructure some of which have already started.

By joining our exciting journey, you will become part of the MRI team, passionate, talented team and will have access to a wide range of learning and development opportunities to further develop both yourself and the services we provide in the coming year.
