Job description

ALTEN UK is seeking a Controls Electronics Engineer with expertise in power electronics mixed‑signal design and EMI / EMC compliance to join our team supporting leading Defence & Aerospace clients in Derby.

This is a high‑impact role contributing to the design of mission‑critical hardware operating in harsh environments.

What youll be doing :
  • Designing analog digital and mixed‑signal circuits with a focus on low noise radiation tolerance and temperature extremes.
  • Developing DC-DC converters, motor drives and power distribution units.
  • Implementing EMI / EMC mitigation strategies across PCB and system level aligned with DO-160 and MIL-STD-461G.
  • Leading pre‑compliance and compliance testing including radiated / conducted emissions & susceptibility.
  • Supporting system‑level grounding, shielding, filtering and bonding.
  • Performing root cause analysis and corrective action on test failures.
  • Collaborating with cross‑functional teams including hardware, PCB layout, systems and mechanical engineers.
Qualifications :
What were looking for :
  • Strong background in controls or power electronics engineering.
  • Hands‑on experience with oscilloscopes, logic/spectrum analyzers and electronics testing (thermal/ambient).
  • Familiarity with SPICE, Altium, LTspice, MATLAB / Simulink.
  • Working knowledge of DO-254, DO-160 and aerospace‑grade PCB design standards.
  • Experience designing for redundancy, fault tolerance and reliability (FMEA).
  • Confident working in a formally documented environment (requirements traceability, config/change control).
