About the role
We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical & Instrumentation Operations Technician to join our East area operations team. In this role, our Electrical & Instrumentation Technicians carry out maintenance, fault‑finding and repair activities on electrical, control and instrumentation systems to ensure the continuous and safe operation of our gas transmission assets.
What do our Electrical & Instrumentation Technicians do?
- Perform planned preventive maintenance on electrical and instrumentation systems.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair faults to minimise downtime.
- Calibrate, test, and maintain instrumentation to ensure compliance with operational standards.
- Assist with installation, commissioning, and modifications of E&I equipment.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, in accordance with company policies, industry regulations, and safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
- Support operational teams during planned shutdowns and emergency repairs.
- Participate in a standby rota once fully trained, typically one week in every four or five, dealing with various faults.

Key Requirements & Experience
- Time‑served apprenticeship (or other recognised training scheme) in an electrical or instrumentation discipline
- BTEC National Certificate (or equivalent City & Guilds, NVQ/SVQ Level 3) in an electrical or instrumentation discipline
- Worked in industries including (but not limited to) FMCG, the broader utilities, military or aviation
- Strong knowledge of ATEX regulations and hazardous area equipment
- Strong knowledge of electrical and instrumentation systems, fault‑finding and calibration
- Familiarity with safety management systems and permit‑to‑work procedures
- Full UK car driving licence
- Ideally (but not essential), you’ll possess an in‑date certificate in any of the following:
- CompEx EX01‑04 Hazardous Equipment
- C&G 2391 Inspection & Testing
- C&G 2377 PAT Testing
- BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
- CompEx EX01‑04 Hazardous Equipment
- Appreciation of systems and equipment associated with other engineering disciplines within the oil and gas (or other similar process) industry – desirable
- Knowledge of SCADA or control systems – desirable
