36 hours per week, 52.14 weeks per year, fixed term until 13 April 2026

St. Ninian’s Primary School and Nursery Class serve the communities of Dedridge, Adambrae and Murieston. Our school roll is 254 and nursery with up to 40 children per session.

We are seeking an enthuisatic practitioner to join nursery team within the setting supporting early learning and the Early Years Officer. The post holder will develop and promote high quality learning experiences for all children within the establishment, and will ensure the effective use of positive behaviour strategies for all children in partnership with staff, parents and other appropriate professionals. The setting is open 50 weeks per year and staff work on a rota across the opening hours.

Responsibilities
  • Support early learning and the Early Years Officer within the nursery team.
  • Develop and promote high quality learning experiences for all children within the establishment.
  • Ensure the effective use of positive behaviour strategies for all children in partnership with staff, parents and other appropriate professionals.
  • Collaborate with staff, parents and external professionals to support children’s development and learning.
Qualifications
  • Educated to HNC/SVQ3 level in Early Education and Childcare or provide equivalent qualifications.
  • Demonstrate breadth and depth of experience in an early year’s educational establishment.
Registration and Compliance
  • This position requires registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). The successful candidate will have six months from the date of commencement of this post to become registered with the SSSC.
  • SSSC stipulates you must submit your application within three months of your start date. If you are already registered with SSSC you will be required to add West Lothian Council to your account.
  • This post is considered Regulated Work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scotland Act 2007. From 28 February 2011 preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.
