Job description

Duty and Advice is the Front Door to Children’s Services where professionals can share their safeguarding concerns with us. Business Support Officers complete a variety of tasks for the service.

As a Business Support Officer within the Duty and Advice Team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of frontline services. Your primary responsibilities will include handling incoming telephone enquiries with professionalism and sensitivity.

You will be sending out official correspondence, creating and updating contact records, and managing a busy shared mailbox.

A key aspect of the role involves integrating and retrieving information from internal databases—this includes accurately searching for and cross-referencing names, dates of birth, addresses, and identifying the allocated social worker for each case.

You will be expected to demonstrate excellent typing skills, as the role requires swift and accurate minute-taking in multi-agency strategy meetings. These demand a quick turnaround. Attention to detail, the ability to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment, and strong organisational skills are essential to succeed in this role.

Duty and Advice is a very busy front-line service that deals with child protection enquiries. Therefore, data protection is of the utmost importance. You will need to be resilient as some of the information received in Duty and Advice can be of an upsetting nature. However, you will receive support from your manager with this.
