Job summary

A large UK retail business is seeking a Driver Trainee Installer in Cambridge. You will undergo a 3-month training program to become a qualified Customer Delivery Installer, responsible for driving vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes and ensuring excellent service during installations. This hands-on role involves significant customer interaction and requires a UK B-Category driving licence. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and a willingness to learn new technologies and products.

About the role

As a Driver Trainee Installer, you will be supported through our 3-month trainee programme to become a fully qualified John Lewis Customer Delivery Installer with a C1 driving licence. You will drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes. Once you're fully trained, you'll have the unique opportunity of bringing our distinctive John Lewis service right to our customers' door and installing the products they love into their homes (such as furniture, large electrical appliances, sound systems and TV sets) as part of a 2-person delivery crew.

Due to its nature, you need to be 18 years or older to work in this role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete our 3 month Customer Delivery Driver Trainee programme to become a fully qualified John Lewis Customer Delivery Installer by meeting the relevant criteria.
  • Be an ambassador for the John Lewis brand with great customer service as your number one priority.
  • Assist in loading your vehicle with the daily deliveries while collaborating with the warehouse team.
  • Show great respect and courtesy for the customer's home and handle unexpected situations to find the best possible solution for your customers.
  • Installing products efficiently and quickly for our customers and demonstrating how they work once installed.
  • Keeping up to date with new products and technologies to perform your role at your best.
  • Maintaining a safe working environment.

Please note this role involves heavy lifting: You will spend a lot of time delivering large items such as sofas, white goods, sports equipment, furniture, beds, and mattresses.

Essential skills/experience you'll need:
  • UK B-Category manual driving licence with no more than 6 points.
  • Have great verbal communication skills both over the phone and in person.
  • Good understanding of technology and an interest in installation.
Desirable skills/experience you can bring:
  • Previous experience in installation and customer delivery driving
