Job description

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Newport to assist with the appointment of a Driver, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay

£13.68 - £17.67 per hour

Summary

The Driver/General Operative will support the Waste Management service by carrying out daily street cleansing duties in line with contract specifications and route schedules. The role includes driving council vehicles when required, maintaining high safety standards, and delivering quality public-facing services. The post also involves supervising cleansing operatives when working as a team and adhering to rostered working patterns, including weekends and bank holidays.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out daily contractual street cleansing tasks in accordance with route schedules.
  • Drive council vehicles as required, following instructions in the Driver Handbook.
  • Comply with Health & Safety regulations, including wearing full protective uniform and footwear.
  • Take reasonable care of personal and team safety; report incidents, accidents, and faults promptly.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions when instructed.
  • Perform cleansing and driving duties as directed by the Refuse & Cleansing Manager.
Essentials
  • Full, current UK driving licence.
  • Knowledge of the Newport City area.
