Job description

The Digital Communications Officer will be responsible for planning, creating and delivering innovative, engaging content for digital channels across a range of platforms. The role holder will be responsible for managing the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s digital channels including the external website and social media. They will work with internal departments and Districts to develop and support colleagues to create content that is appropriate for different audiences and digital channels across the Service to help deliver a best-in-class online user experience that supports the Service brand.Hours of Work: Monday - Friday 37 hours per week.Salary: £37,694 - £38,990 plus £1365 environmental allowance.

Responsibilities
  • Developing high quality, engaging digital content tailored for a variety of audiences and channels, including web and social media.
  • Managing the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s official social media channels, ensuring consistent tone, branding and responsiveness.
  • Uploading content to the Police Service of Northern Ireland website in line with accessibility and usability best practice.
  • Working with colleagues across departments and Districts to advise on, develop and deliver innovative and engaging digital content that support communications objectives.
  • Maintaining digital content on organisational social media channels and website and ensure brand and message consistency.
  • Providing training, guidance and practical support to social media users across the organisation, acting as the main point of contact for digital communications queries.
  • Monitoring, measuring and reporting on the performance of digital content and campaigns, using analytics and insights to evaluate and inform future activity.
  • Researching and applying emerging trends and techniques to ensure the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s digital communications are innovative, effective and reflect current best practice.

Skills and Qualifications
  • A degree or equivalent qualification plus 2 years’ experience of Digital Marketing or Digital Communications or 2 A’ Levels or equivalent qualification plus 3 years’ experience of Digital Marketing or Digital Communications.
  • Demonstrated experience of planning, creating and delivering engaging digital content and campaigns for social media and websites.
  • Proven ability to use analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics 4, native social media insights, reporting dashboards) to measure and evaluate performance, inform decision-making and improve digital content and campaigns.
  • Skilled in using content management systems (e.g. WordPress, Drupal or equivalent) to publish and update website content accurately and efficiently.
  • Experience of paid social media advertising.
  • Experience of using a social media management platform.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to write concisely, quickly, accurately and engagingly for a variety of audiences and media.
  • IT literate specifically in the use of the Microsoft Office suite. (Including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel and MS Outlook), social media platforms and content management systems.
  • The successful candidate must have access to a form of transport which will enable them to fulfil the responsibilities of the job in full.
  • Strong understanding of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and accessibility principles to ensure content is optimised, inclusive and compliant with digital best practice.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and campaigns simultaneously, delivering to tight deadlines and collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
