We Do What We Say and We Care

That's why we need people like you to help us deliver on our promises. People who enjoy getting things done and want to develop their experience in the world of utilities.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Metering Dig Team Leader to join Clancy, supporting our client Affinity Water. This is a great role for someone with experience in safe excavation, good communication skills, and a hands‑on approach to leading and supporting a team on the ground.

As part of our Metering Dig Teams, you will play a key role in ensuring that excavation, installation, and reinstatement works are carried out safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard across both public and private properties.

The Role

You will be responsible for leading a team, coordinating daily activities to support water meter installations, maintenance, and replacement works. From planning and supervising digs to ensuring safety compliance and quality reinstatement, you will take ownership of getting the job done right – first time, every time.

Here are some of the activities you will be involved in
  • Plan and oversee daily excavation and reinstatement works to access and install water meters.
  • Lead by example on site safety, ensuring all works comply with Clancy and Affinity Water’s health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Carry out safe excavations in both public highways and private properties.
  • Ensure reinstatement is completed to specification, maintaining high standards of workmanship.
  • Liaise with supervisors, planners, and customers to communicate progress and resolve any on‑site challenges.
  • Complete required documentation accurately and on time, including site records.
  • Support, train, and mentor team members to develop skills and maintain positive team performance.
We would love to hear from you if

You have previous experience as a Team Leader, with a good all‑round knowledge and understanding of smart metering and the water industry. You’ll already have hands‑on experience working within utilities, ideally in water or metering, and be confident managing excavation activities and small teams.

You hold a full, clean UK driving licence and have an NRSWA qualification (units 1‑6 as a minimum). Experience and qualification in underground service detection using tools such as CAT and Genny is essential, along with a strong awareness of health and safety practices.

We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work, has excellent organisational and communication skills, and can remain calm and professional when managing multiple priorities. Your ability to lead by example and maintain high safety and quality standards will be key to your success in this role.
