Job description

Basic Salary £40k to £50k - Bonus - Pension - PMI

A new opportunity as Development Underwriter has arisen working for an insurance company where their Head Office is based near Leeds. This organisation has the ability to move between or combine their business model enabling maximum flexibility in meeting intermediary requirements. They have a proven reputation as developers of bespoke commercial lines niche insurance products coupled with a unique combination of expertise, people, systems and access to underwriting capacity.

This particular role is working within their commercial underwriting division where you will be required to maintain and maximise intermediary relationships within the underwriting team, working on new business. Basically, you will be responsible for - Acquisition of New Business & Retention Targets; achieving Budget targets & ULR Ratio Targets, Customer Service and Underwriting standards.

This role could be a mixture of being in the office or homes based, and ideally the company are seeking someone in the North of England, however they could accommodate any location if needed.

You will need to have previously worked in a commercial insurance underwriting environment and have good product knowledge on general insurance risks.

Key responsibilities will be to:-

• Strive for maximum efficiency, development and profitability
• Underwriting in accordance with the company’s underwriting strategy and Underwriting Guide
• Being visible in the broker markets and client visits when required
• Working with business development team to achieve business growth in accordance with targets
• Work in accordance with personal Underwriting Authority & in accordance with company’s service standards and understanding of Compliance rules
• To support and assist Commercial Underwriting Manager
• Take ownership and accountability for building effective working relationships with internal colleagues within the business
• Accountability and Ownership for large case reviews including both New and Existing Business
• Act as a referral point within the team

Required Skills/Experience

• Previous underwriting experience on Core market products
• Strong Trading and negotiation skills
• A working knowledge of market wordings and products.
• A good understanding of the broker environment and broker relationships
• Commercial underwriting experience, or experience of dealing with commercial products in broking environment
• Ability to write in plain English and avoid unnecessary use of jargon
