Job summary

A UK-based design firm is seeking a Development Designer to produce innovative development solutions and support the design intent of clients. The role involves conducting site surveys, collaborating with installation teams, and assisting in creating technical drawings and 3D mock-ups. Ideal candidates will possess proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, SolidWorks, and CAD software, along with a strong understanding of design principles. This position offers full-time hours with an annual pay of £35K.

Responsibilities

  • Produce development solutions to support clients' design intents.

Job Title: Development Designer

Hours: Full time 08:00 – 17:00 – Monday to Thursday / 08:00 – 16:00 – Friday

Pay: £35K

Job Description
  • Responsible for producing development solutions to support the clients design and technical intent.
  • Conduct site surveys as required with supervision from senior members of staff.
  • Form part of an installation team on site, aiding members with site activities as and when required.
  • Assist in creating and developing technical drawings, 3D mock‑ups, and specification sheets under guidance.
  • Support the product development lifecycle from concept to production, including sample reviews and revisions.
  • Collaborate with design, sourcing, and production teams to ensure design intent is maintained through development.
  • Maintain and update bill of materials (BOMs) and product specification documents.
  • Conduct materials research, liaise with suppliers for swatches and samples, and help assess feasibility.
  • Prepare and maintain organised digital files, drawings, and project documentation.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as Planning, workshop, prototype and pre‑production, to align development activities with sales forecasts.
Skills & Experience
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (especially Illustrator) and familiarity with CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Rhino).
  • Strong understanding of design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow design specifications precisely.
  • Clear and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time and prioritise tasks in a deadline‑driven environment.
  • Have a sound knowledge of SolidWorks.
