Are you a design engineer who thrives on solving real-world engineering challenges?

Do you want to play a key role in delivering robust, high-performance solutions for sustainable electric motor technologies?

If so, you could be the perfect fit for our Project Engineering team at Advanced Electric Machines.

About Advanced Electric Machines

Advanced Electric Machines is a Northeast UK-based company producing cutting-edge electric motor and powertrain technologies for customers worldwide.

We are proud of our award-winning products that set new standards in sustainability and power density, and we are always looking for new ways to improve and innovate.

Our technology is changing the perception of electrification, and when applied, it leaves more rare earth & copper in the ground... where it belongs!

We are an ambitious organisation, where the atmosphere is dynamic and ever-changing.

We have big plans and want to make a difference. Do you?

What you'll do

As part of the Project Engineering team, you will focus primarily on existing projects, ensuring designs meet customer requirements and deliverables. Occasionally, you'll also contribute to New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, supporting innovation and continuous improvement.

Your responsibilities will include
  • Collaborating on mechanical development and optimisation of existing products.
  • Using CAD, CAE, and PLM tools to create designs, run simulations, and manage data.
  • Applying engineering judgement and hand calculations where appropriate.
  • Supporting test and validation activities to correlate CAE models with experimental results.
  • Specifying materials and proposing manufacturing methods (e.g., machining, castings) considering performance and cost.
  • Working with suppliers and internal teams on design for manufacture and sourcing of components.
  • Participating in 8D / FRACAS activities to identify root causes and drive corrective actions.
  • Ensuring compliance with established processes and standards while contributing to continuous improvement.
We'd love you to have
  • MEng (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering-or demonstrable, relevant industrial experience.
  • Professional registration (e.g., CEng with IMechE / IEE) is desirable.
  • Strong experience in mechanical design within a product development environment, including 2D / 3D CAD and CAE.
  • Experience with rotating electric machines and high-volume production is advantageous (automotive experience desirable).
  • Broad technical capability in mechanical engineering and multidisciplinary awareness.
  • Comfortable working independently and within larger project teams.
In return you'll get
  • An opportunity to work for a company producing cutting-edge electric motor and powertrain technologies for customers worldwide.
  • The chance to join a growing business where your achievement will be valued, visible, and recognised.
  • The opportunity to work across the business, using your learned knowledge and skills while exploring and developing on your ideas.
Great colleague benefits
  • Private healthcare insurance
  • Critical Illness Cover
  • Death in Service Cover
  • Company and employee contribution pension scheme
  • Electric Vehicle salary sacrifice scheme including onsite electric charge points
  • Enhanced Family Leave
  • 25 days holiday per year, increasing after 2 and 4 years' service
