Design Engineer
Location: Kidderminster
Salary: Negotiable Depending on Experience
Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a self‑motivated individual to join an established engineering department. A strong team‑player attitude is essential. The Design Engineer will be responsible for various ongoing projects, including cost‑effective design, material procurement, project instigation, control, and compilation and submission of all associated engineering documentation.
Duties and Responsibilities
General
- Committed to achieving company policies and objectives with attention to quality, safety, and environment
- Undertake reasonable instructions from senior personnel
- Pay special attention to quality and safety
Initiation
- Assist Sales with quotation drawings/documentation (as workload permits)
- Assist R&D with new equipment/product development and creation of standard 3D models/library parts (as workload permits)
Design
- Create cost‑effective designs through standardisation of components
- Produce General Arrangement drawings, Manufacturing drawings, and Technical Specifications
- Produce 3D models for estimating weights, volumes, interferences, and complex geometries
- Verify designs via calculations and/or FEA/CFD under supervision
- Ensure designs comply with Health & Safety legislation and applicable design codes (e.g., ASME VIII, ASME B31.3)
- Ensure designs meet governing legislation (e.g., 2014/68/EU PED)
Material Procurement
- Produce material requisitions to ensure all requirements are identified
- Use standard components and reference part numbers where possible
Project Instigation & Control
- Manage projects/contracts from Sales hand‑over to delivery
- Liaise with Quality/Production to ensure all activity is considered and controlled
Documentation
- Organise and prepare all engineering documentation as required by the contract
- Submit required contract documentation to clients/third parties
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
- Minimum GCSE Grade 5 (or equivalent grade C) in Maths & English
- HNC in Mechanical Engineering essential
- Proficiency in Microsoft packages (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Experience using Adobe Acrobat
- AutoCAD experience essential
- SolidWorks & 3D Modelling
- Knowledge of manufacturing, welding, piping, and materials essential
- Experience in the Oil & Gas industry preferred

Hours of Work
Office hours allow flexi‑time covering a 37‑hour week. Flexible start and finish times are available within core hours. Monday to Thursday covers an 8‑hour shift, and Friday covers a 5‑hour shift. Further details will be provided at interview stage.
