Qualifications

Electrical Design Engineer

Location

Purpose of the role

As a Design Engineer you will be an integral member of the Engineering Design Team, working closely with Design Managers and Leads to deliver high‑quality electrical design for water and wastewater projects. The role involves ensuring compliance with BMS, health & safety regulations, and GT processes, while supporting prototypes, governance, and junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical compliance and quality assurance on design outputs.
• Assist project teams in developing optimal solutions that balance capital and operational costs.
• Adhere to procedural governance and maintain integration with other discipline designs.
• Support design governance, risk and opportunity management throughout the project life cycle.
• Generate electrical installation packs: cable calculations, single line diagrams, cable block diagrams, termination details, cable schedules, and communication network layouts.
• Develop control philosophies, URS and FDS documents where applicable.
• Prepare LV earthing schematics and maintain knowledge of BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations & NICEIC Electrical Installation Certificates.
• Coordinate with procurement and supply‑chain activities to support site operations as required.
• Provide leadership, direction and encouragement to junior team members.

Qualifications

• Degree level in Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Proficiency with AMTECH, AutoCAD/Draftsight and electrical design software.
• Experience in generating control philosophies, URS and FDS documents.
• Knowledge of C&G 2382–18, BS7671 wiring regulations, and NICEIC Electrical Installation Certificates.
• Commercial awareness within a contracting/consulting environment.
• Good communication, stakeholder management, and IT skills (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
