The Opportunity

Are you a Design Engineer with 3+ years' experience looking to take the next step in your career? A highly reputable steel fabrication company in the Southwest is seeking a motivated Design Engineer to join their growing technical team. You'll work on a variety of structural steel projects—from portal frames to multi-storey steel buildings—while being supported with continued development and clear progression opportunities.

This is a great fit for someone ready to take more ownership of design work and step toward senior-level responsibility over time.

Responsibilities
  • Produce detailed design calculations and drawings for steel-framed structures, including portal frames and beam & column systems
  • Assist in the preparation of connection designs, layout plans, and fabrication details
  • Collaborate with internal teams including fabrication, erection, and project management
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant standards (e.g. EN 1090, Eurocodes)
  • Liaise with clients, architects, and engineers to ensure smooth delivery of design packages
  • Support the development of junior team members as you grow in your own role
About You
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in structural or steel design (e.g. steel-framed buildings, cladding, connections)
  • Degree or HND/HNC in Structural, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant codes (Eurocodes, BS EN 1993, EN 1090)
  • Competent in CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, Tekla, Advance Steel) and structural design tools
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communicator with a proactive and collaborative mindset
  • Keen to progress into a more senior role in future
