About the Role

As an Operations Controller you will play a key role in ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, and facilities across the University of Derby. Based within our 24/7 Control Room at the Kedleston Road campus, you will coordinate all aspects of security operations, from incident response and monitoring CCTV systems to directing on‑site teams and liaising with external agencies. You will act as the central point of contact for all planned and reactive security activity, delivering a professional, efficient and customer‑focused service at all times.

Responsibilities
  • Incident response and monitoring CCTV systems.
  • Direct on‑site security teams and coordinate responses.
  • Liaise with external agencies when required.
  • Act as a central point of contact for all planned and reactive security activity.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of security incidents.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in a control‑room or security operations environment.
  • Strong situational awareness and confidence to lead during incidents.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to make quick, effective decisions under pressure.
  • Comfortable using CCTV, radio and access‑control systems.
  • GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English and a full, clean UK driving licence.
  • Current SIA CCTV or Door Supervisor licence and First Aid at Work certificate highly desirable.
  • IT competence and experience operating large‑scale security systems.
