Job Summary
As a Deputy Service Manager, you will work closely with the Swindon Wellbeing team to provide guidance, support and line‑management responsibilities. You will inform the future direction and development of the Swindon Wellbeing Specialist services while collaborating with the Service Manager and Senior Leadership Team.

Job Responsibilities
- Co‑lead and develop your team with the Service Manager, delivering recovery‑focused, high‑quality, safe, and person‑centred care that achieves positive outcomes.
- Contribute to the future direction and development of the Swindon Wellbeing Services, working closely with Directors and Commissioners both internally and externally.
- Build and sustain a positive, dynamic can‑do culture within the organisation.
- Attend and contribute to regular team meetings, staff meetings, supervision, appraisals and training.
- Champion innovation and co‑lead the implementation of service enhancements, supporting the adoption of best practice and continuous improvement.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with key referrers, including Primary Care Networks and Secondary Care Services, fostering meaningful two‑way engagement.
- Understand and build on local assets and resources to enable holistic, place‑based support structures responsive to local needs.
- Provide coaching, supervision and appraisal to support staff development.
- Produce regular outcome reports to demonstrate service effectiveness and identify gaps.
- Take an active role in staff recruitment, including participating in interview panels and leading inductions of new staff.
- Oversee recruitment and induction of volunteers.
- Participate in the on‑call rota to support staff across Swindon & Gloucestershire Mind services.
- Attend meetings related to the Sanford House building and those relevant to commissioned contracts.
- Conduct safety assessments for service areas, ensuring appropriate use of the safety assessment framework.
- Investigate incidents, complaints and undertake related investigations in line with policies.
- Ensure risk is assessed and managed appropriately by all staff, supporting lone working arrangements.
- Act as Safeguarding Lead for adults and children within the Swindon Wellbeing Service.
- Act as Health & Safety Officer for the Swindon Wellbeing Service.
Qualifications and Experience
- Broad understanding of how mental health services are currently delivered and innovative ideas to respond to individual needs.
- Experience assessing, planning and monitoring services and interventions, and presenting quality information and analysis for stakeholders.
- Experience leading and managing a dispersed team across multiple sites, including recruiting and performance management, within the health and social care sector.
- Knowledge of challenges faced by people experiencing mental health difficulties and familiarity with best‑practice approaches.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, with experience managing budgets.
- Flexible approach, able to work autonomously and as part of a team, valuing proactivity and collaboration.
- Ability to travel to venues across Swindon and Gloucestershire.
Desirable
- Experience working collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience dealing with and reporting incidents, accidents, near misses and safeguarding issues.
