Job description

The Deputy MAPPA Coordinator supports and is accountable to the MAPPA Coordinator, providing management of MAPPA activity as directed by the local MAPPA Strategic Management Board (SMB). The role ensures that multi‑agency risk management focuses on the right people in a timely and efficient manner, delivering robust and defensible plans that address known indicators of serious harm. It is a management position undertaken on behalf of the local SMB within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities
  • Accountable to the MAPPA Coordinator and the SMB.
  • Act as the point of contact for the management of MAPPA offenders.
  • Implement the MAPPA process on behalf of the SMB, working alongside the Coordinator.
  • Ensure effective and appropriate information sharing.
  • Collate and report statistical data as required by MAPPA guidance.
  • Implement the SMB Business Plan on behalf of the SMB.
  • Provide training and quality assurance for the management of MAPPA offenders.
  • Act as the ViSOR central point of contact for Probation within the MAPPA area.
  • Support the Coordinator in providing effective management and leadership to the team.
  • Access, interpret, analyse and apply performance data pro‑actively to maximise MAPPA performance and evaluate practice.
  • Proactively manage staff development, underperformance, attendance, health and safety, employee relations, and diversity matters.
  • Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement in MAPPA service delivery.
  • Represent the NPS in working with partners and key stakeholders, supporting the SMB business plan.
  • Facilitate effective communication between the Responsible Authorities and the Duty to Cooperate Agencies, ensuring they receive up‑to‑date information.
  • Develop and deliver training/briefing sessions on MAPPA for staff within the relevant authorities.
  • Deputise for the MAPPA Coordinator where appropriate.
  • Ensure local MAPPA arrangements comply with statutory safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to equality and inclusion at all times.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Good practice across a variety of settings, including offender risk assessment and multi‑disciplinary environments.
  • Experience contributing to effective administration and information systems.
  • Proven record of supporting change and achieving improvements in quality and efficiency.
  • Track record of championing diversity and inclusiveness internally and externally.
  • Knowledge of the victim contact scheme for victims of crime.
  • Understanding of MAPPA’s role within the Criminal Justice System and of the ViSOR application.
  • IT skills, including the ability to interpret and apply performance reports.

Working Arrangements & Benefits

The MoJ offers hybrid working arrangements where business needs allow, with a preference for base locations within the UK. Full‑time hours are 37 per week, excluding breaks. Part‑time, flexible and job‑sharing options are available. The role includes:
