Join our Care Home Team in Exeter. Green Tree Court located in Exeter is a luxury, 68-bedroom care home which has achieved the Stirling Gold Standard for dementia design. The home provides a comfortable, safe, stylish environment, for those requiring expert dementia support and nursing care.

Purpose of the role

As Deputy Manager, you are responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality care that meets professional and regulatory standards. You lead by example, providing clear direction and daily operational support to your team, while fostering a culture of collaboration, integrity, and continuous improvement.

You support staff development through supervision and mentoring, promote personalised care that enhances wellbeing and independence, and build trusted relationships with service users, families, and external partners. In the absence of the Home Director, you assume full responsibility for the service, ensuring continuity, compliance, and excellence in care delivery.

Key responsibilities of the role
Engaging People & Key Working Relationships
  • Act as a role model through behaviour that reflects the values of integrity, compassion, and excellence.

  • Participate in working groups and initiatives, contributing expertise to service development.
Delivering Results & Functional Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the achievement of strategic goals including quality, efficiency, and growth.
  • Promote and embed a positive approach to high-quality care and support the implementation of people-focused strategies.
  • Assist the Home Director with day-to-day operational activities, ensuring all regulatory standards are met.
  • Take responsibility for managing the service during the Home Director's absence, ensuring continuity and leadership.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels and ensure health and safety procedures are followed.
  • Support the investigation and resolution of complaints and concerns, sharing learning to improve practice.
  • Contribute to audit and regulatory compliance, embedding good governance and quality assurance processes.
  • Implement recommendations from regulatory bodies and internal reviews, supporting continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of care and team performance, escalating issues appropriately and supporting SMART action plans.
  • Promote efficient use of resources including time, people, finances, and the physical environment.
  • Provide balanced feedback and guidance to improve performance and maintain high standards.
Management and Leadership
  • Demonstrate integrity by acting in an open, honest, and ethical manner, setting a positive example for others.
  • Undertake delegated management responsibilities including staff supervision, appraisal, and development.
  • Support all aspects of personnel management including recruitment, talent development, succession planning, and staff transitions.
  • Monitor staff performance and conduct, supporting the Home Director in managing disciplinary, absence, and grievance processes.
  • Delegate tasks effectively, ensuring responsibilities align with team members' roles and competencies.
  • Encourage feedback and self-awareness, adapting behaviour to strengthen leadership impact.
  • Identify and address development needs within the team, enabling opportunities for growth and peer learning.
  • Foster a supportive environment where team members feel valued and empowered to reach their potential.
Setting Direction & Service Improvement
  • Contribute to business planning and support the delivery of service objectives.
  • Act as a positive role model for change, supporting the implementation and embedding of service improvements.
  • Promote the adoption of new initiatives that enhance quality, efficiency, and the colleague experience.
  • Encourage innovation and involve the team in service development and improvement planning.
  • Collaborate with the Home Director to evaluate service performance and use feedback to inform change.
  • Challenge constructively and take initiative to address issues, ensuring the right actions are taken.
  • Use data and evidence to support decision-making and strategic planning.
To be considered for the role you would need to have the following:
  • Level 4 qualification in Leadership and Management in Health & Social Care, or equivalent.
  • Willingness to enroll and complete the qualification within the timeframe specified by the training provider if not already held.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development, including completion of mandatory and role‑specific training.
  • Experience working at supervisory or deputy level in a health or social care setting.
  • Proven ability to manage people and deliver performance outcomes.
  • Skilled in building high‑performing teams.
  • Knowledge of operational management and organizational effectiveness.
  • Experience implementing and embedding quality improvement or change projects.
  • Understanding of governance systems including audits and compliance.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation including Health & Social Care Act, CQC regulations, employment law, health and safety, fire safety, and environmental health
  • Skilled communicator, able to build collaborative relationships and consensus.
  • Flexible leadership style, able to adapt to team needs and dynamics.
  • Inspires teams by communicating a shared purpose and supporting achievement.
  • Holds self and others accountable for delivering results.
