Job summary

Job Overview

We are looking to recruit a Band 6 RMN to join the team at the Regional Bed Unit at HMP Manchester. As a deputy unit manager, the post holder will support the unit manager and colleagues in implementing Trust and HMPPS policies, facilitate change management, supervise and appraise staff, deliver training, and support professional development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support men residing on the unit with their physical and/or mental health needs.
  • Work closely with service users, the prison service, health and social care professionals, criminal justice agencies, and allied agencies to promote effective working relationships.
  • Cover shifts over a 24‑hour period on a rota basis.
  • Support the unit manager in reviewing and managing incidents and complaints.
  • Complete local audits, develop action plans, and support the implementation of Trust and HMPPS policies and protocols.
  • Assess patients with complex needs, provide robust risk assessment and management, liaise with internal and external professionals, and facilitate safe discharge planning.
  • Supervise, appraise, and support the professional development of peers.
  • Collaboratively implement change management and support other colleagues through supervision, appraisals, and training.
Requirements

Enthusiastic, resilient, and committed to providing high standards of care. Experience in mental health care within a prison or similar environment is highly desirable.
