Deputy Director of Care Services - (Supportive Care)

The post holder will champion excellence supportingcare services, and together with theDirector of Care Services, the post willdesign, develop and deliver existing and new services.

They will provide professional leadership andstrategic oversight across all services, working collaboratively with theservice leads and Senior Clinical Team. This has been identified as been pivotal in ensuring the effective management,coordination and service development of all of the following areas Dementia Day Care,Wellbeing/ Outreach Services, and the Family Care Team. A second key element of the role will be in activelylooking for opportunities to expand and create new community services.

The post holder will also deputise for the Director of Care Services, helping to guideour health and care service with confidence and care.

They will work with the Director of Care Services to shape, support, and coordinateour out of hospice offering. The postholder will play an important part in celebrating and strengthening the manyoutstanding areas of practice within our organisation, while also supportingand driving improvements to ensure our services are up-to-date and relevant for our Service Users needs. Your leadership will help to nurture a strong learning culture wherestaff feel valued, engaged supported, and encouraged to grow.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide effective professional leadership, management,and coordination of Dementia Day Care, Wellbeing Services, and the Family CareTeam.
  • Provide visible and effective leadership ensuring theefficient day to day running of departments, and assisting them to manage theircapacity so they are able to deliver high-quality, person-centred safecare.
  • Foster a strong learning culture, promoting continuousprofessional development and reflective practice within teams.
  • Providing expert advice, promoting evidence-basedpractice, and ensuring high standards of out of hospice care and safety
  • Support the delivery of organisational objectives andquality improvement initiatives through effective communication, collaborativeworking, and strategic service development.
  • Manage patient and family concerns and complaints in atimely way with compassion and professionalism.
  • Support and promote an open, honest and transparentculture and encourage the teams to challenge and continually improve thestandard of practice
  • Encourage reflective practice amongst the team.
  • Together with the Director of Care Services ensure thatfinancial budgets and controls are managed across the clinical department.
  • Collaboration: Working with multi-disciplinary teams,other agencies i.e. Health and social care and other VCSE organisation e.g.,ensuring coordinated and integrated care is provided.

Wakefield Hospice is a purpose-built specialist palliative care unit that opened in April 1990 providing 16 registered beds, a day therapy unit, Wellbeing and Family Care Service.
