Make a Difference in Learning Disability & Trauma Support. Join Our Team at Mallusk! Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can make a real impact in the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities and complex needs?Mallusk is a 24 hour Supported Livings scheme, currently housing 5 residents (male and female) with complex needs associated with learning disabilities. We provide specialist, person-centred support to assist the people we care for to build confidence, develop independence, and thrive in a supportive environment.Mallusk is a dynamic, fast-paced service that supports individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, and trauma backgrounds. Every day brings opportunities to make a real difference, whether it’s helping a service user gain confidence shopping independently, attend a concert for the first time, or build friendships within the service.Here, staff work together to encourage independence and self-growth through engaging activities, structured routines, and trauma-informed care. Some of the key activities and initiatives that make our service unique include:Supporting those we care for in building friendships and social networks.Recreational & therapeutic activities - book club, fitness classes, cycling.We are currently undertaking planning the build of an allotment and sensory area.Social & leisure activities - hot chocolate nights, movie nights, discos, and cinema tripsHelping individuals build life skills, from managing money to personal care.The main function of the role is to provide the highest possible standards of support to the people who use our services. To assist the Area Manager to develop current Services in line with appropriate Government, local and regional, strategies, to identify new opportunities for growth and to secure commissioning arrangements for these services. Within that context he/she will be expected to work closely with the Area Manager and on their own initiative.

Responsibilities
  • To work in line with the Area Manager to support staff.
  • To provide guidance and training for the people who use our services, staff, and volunteers, on the benefits of service user involvement.
  • To assist the Area Manager in facilitating the liaison with professionals and middle management within Health and Social Care Trusts, and other relevant agencies.
  • In conjunction with the Area Manager be responsible for the promotion and development of good relationships with the people who use our services, their friends and relatives.
  • To ensure that staff develop & maintain a trusting & professional relationship with the people who use our services and act in a supportive & empathetic manner towards them.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Willingness to work flexible hours required for the job to include evening and weekend work.
  • Possess a full current driving licence and access to a car. Business insurance will be a requirement for this post.
  • Consideration will be given to alternative travelling proposals in respect of applicants with a disability who cannot hold a driver’s licence.
  • Professional qualification for example, Professional Social Work qualification and registered on the appropriate part of the NISCC register without condition.
  • A relevant Bachelor’s Degree (e.g. Psychology, Social Care) and registered on the appropriate part of the NISCC register without condition.
  • A first level registered nurse on the appropriate part of the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
  • A qualified Occupational Therapist registered with BOAT.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience of working in a health and social care setting, providing services to people with a learning disability. At least 1 year of this experience must be in a relevant operational management capacity.
  • A QCF Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care Services (Adults Management) Wales and Northern Ireland and be registered or eligible for registration on appointment on the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC) register
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a health and social care setting, providing services to people with a learning disability
  • At least 1 year of this experience must be in a relevant operational management capacity, which must include the supervision of staff/volunteers and financial management
  • Experience of using Microsoft packages to include Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
