Data Protection Officer - Milton Keynes, Head Office

As the Data Protection Officer (DPO) for Group 1 UK, you will be responsible for leading on and delivering its data protection strategy to ensure compliance with applicable data protection laws across our automotive operations. This role will provide independent oversight and expert advice on all data protection matters.

What you’ll do day to day

  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective data protection policies, procedures, and controls in line with UK GDPR, DPA 2018, and other privacy laws.

  • Lead data protection awareness across the organisation, providing training, advice, and challenging non-compliance where needed.

  • Maintain and review Records of Processing Activities and data mapping, ensuring accuracy of all key data flows.

  • Oversee and manage data breaches, data subject rights requests, and DPIAs, ensuring timely resolution and compliance with ICO requirements.

  • Monitor, audit, and report on data protection performance and risks, driving continuous improvement across the business.

  • Extensive knowledge of UK GDPR, DPA 2018, PECR, and key global data protection regulations.

  • Proven experience developing and implementing robust data protection frameworks in a complex, multi-site organisation.

  • Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.

  • Demonstrable experience managing data breaches, DPIAs, and regulatory investigations.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify and explain complex legal or technical concepts clearly.
