Overview

Job title: CYP Psychological Training: Therapy Trainee CBT (Therapeutic Practitioner trainee) – full-time, NHS England CYP-PT funded, within the Children and Young People’s Psychological Training Programme. Location: Ormiston Families, Norwich (travel across Norfolk & Waveney and to Anna Freud, London for training). Salary: £34,467.72 per year. Contract: 1-year fixed-term training post. Start date: 6 January 2026 (university start date 19 January 2026). Working pattern: Full-time, 37.5 hours; flexible working. This is a fully funded training role delivering CBT interventions to children, young people and families under supervision, with a split of practical clinical work and postgraduate study.

About the programme
This is a government-funded CYP-PT initiative designed to grow the child mental health workforce. NHSE covers salary and training costs for a one-year post, enabling services to employ trainees to support specialist pathways and bridge gaps in CYP mental health support. Trainees apply academic learning from weekly teaching directly into practice.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with children, young people and families, delivering CBT interventions under supervision.
• Split time between practical clinical work (2.5 days/week) and postgraduate study with UCL/Anna Freud (2.5 days/week).
• Obtain the UCL Postgraduate Diploma in CBT for Children and Young People upon successful completion.
• Assess referrals for suitability and contribute to formulation, planning, and evaluation of therapy programs.
• Involve family members in treatment and communicate therapy formulations clearly and sensitively.
• Use routine outcome/feedback measures to inform treatment and demonstrate impact.
• Adhere to service protocols, keep accurate records, attend MDT meetings, and support stepped-care approaches.
• Engage in safeguarding, multi-agency collaboration, and data collection requirements as part of the role.

Training and supervision

• Attend and fulfil all requirements of the training programme and apply learning in clinical practice.
• Receive supervision from educational providers to meet required standards.
• Prepare and present clinical information for patients to clinical supervisors on a scheduled basis.
