At Co-op, we do things a different way. For over 175 years we've been focused on making things fairer for our members and their communities, and as a colleague we promise to take care of you with support for physical, mental, and financial wellbeing and market-leading policies for life events from bereavement and pregnancy loss to fertility treatment and menopause.

What you'll do
  • Friendly and thoughtful service — provide welcoming, easy, helpful, and thoughtful service every day, often taking ownership for managing the store and handling challenging situations.
  • Develop your team's capabilities through coaching and training, fostering an inclusive culture where everyone's voice is valued and respected.
  • Ensure the store remains safe, legal, and fully operational.
  • Manage diligence checks and stock accuracy to make shopping a great experience for customers.
  • Support your store manager by deputising when they're not working and delivering a variety of HR processes.
  • Lead the way when introducing new products and services in your store — work closely with your team to implement change and encourage open and honest feedback.
  • Build relationships and get involved in your local community, supporting your Store Manager with the delivery of the local Co-op community plan.
  • Balance leading and supporting your team with hands-on shop floor work:
  • Demonstrate great people skills and build positive relationships with customers and colleagues.
  • Show strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate a desire to learn, grow and develop your leadership skills.
Working pattern and schedule
  • Contract: 16 hours per week + regular overtime, permanent, part time.
  • Working pattern: 4 varied shifts over 7 days including early mornings (6am), afternoons, late evenings (10pm) and weekends; to be discussed at interview.
  • Full, paid training provided.
Requirements and benefits
  • You can apply for this role using your mobile device (no CV needed).
  • You must be aged 18 or over to be a Customer Team Leader at Co-op, as you'll need to authorise age-related sales.
  • Full, paid training and dedicated support for your personal development and career progression.
  • 30% discount on all Co-op products in-store plus 10% discounts on all other brands.
  • Pension scheme with up to 10% employer contributions.
  • Wagestream — a money management app giving access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it.
  • 36 days of holiday (including bank holidays, pro rata for part-time colleagues).
  • Virtual healthcare services for you and your family, including GP appointments, eye care, mental health support, and nutrition and fitness consultations.
  • 24/7 employee assistance service.
  • Rotas shared three weeks in advance and accessible on your phone.
  • Cycle-to-work scheme.
