The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) prosecutes criminal cases that have been investigated by the police and other investigative organisations in England and Wales, making operational decisions fairly and objectively. It sits at the heart of the criminal justice system, working with partners to help keep the public safe. The CPS is a National Organisation made up of over 7,000 people across England and Wales. Almost half of our employees are lawyers, responsible for deciding whether to prosecute cases, and who represent the Crown in many hearings in the courts. The CPS faces many challenges, most of which require joint working across the criminal justice system and with a complex and often high-profile range of stakeholders.

About the Digital Information Directorate
The Digital Information Directorate is made up of approximately 300 members of staff and has an overall budget of approximately £85 million. The goal of this directorate is to ensure that the infrastructure and systems that CPS relies on to function are maintained and kept in a condition conducive to a successful working environment. Additionally, it is the driving force for digital transformation throughout the CPS, ensuring that the organisation is well positioned to harness new technologies to their greatest extent, resulting in the best service offering possible for the end user.

About the Role
As our newly appointed Chief Technology Officer (CTO), you will have overall responsibility for designing and delivering appropriate and forward-thinking technical services across the enterprise at the CPS, supporting our future strategic ambitions with market leading technology architecture and solutions, whilst driving a high-performance culture across a team of around 200 people.
You will chair Technical Design Authority boards, provide strategic leadership and decision making to guide the Executive Group, and provide feedback and assurance to the Chief Digital and Information Officer, playing an active part in helping to shape the Service’s vision and objectives for the future. You will also augment and develop an overall Technology Strategy for CPS which supports the CPS\'s vision around Cloud, Data, and Information Security, providing the detail to ensure that the Directorate continues to meet the future needs of the CPS and the wider Criminal Justice System. You will be expected to understand the risk appetite of the organisation and provide innovative solutions, defining and driving objectives regarding operational system modernisation.

The successful candidate will:

• Have significant experience of leading cloud native, complex enterprise grade platforms and architecture, serving thousands of users.
• Be able to design a clear technology roadmap and set a vision and strategy that is aligned with the strategic goals and priorities of the organisation, and more broadly the outcomes of the criminal justice system.
• Inspire and lead multi-disciplinary teams, promoting a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, inclusion and high performance.
• Build and maintain strong relationships across a complex range of internal and external partners, from cyber to delivery partners and the executive, and more broadly across the criminal justice system and public sector.
• Drive digital transformation through innovation, user-centred design, modern architecture and technologies, including the adoption of AI where appropriate.
• Ensure the high performance of external technology service suppliers, including oversight of key commercial decision making.
• Grow and mature a best-in-class data function to support both informed decision making and the future adoption of automation and AI.
• Give the team a clear remit and direction via the design and adoption of clear and robust policies and procedures across a range of disciplines and technology related areas.
• Identify and effectively manage legacy/technology obsolescence, leading technology and service modernisation through the delivery of forward-thinking technology roadmap.
• Promote service oriented and agile ways of working including a continuous improvement and a fail-fast mindset.
• Embed a DevSecOps and Cloud native technology model and culture, aligned to best practice technology policy and standards within government.
• Act as a visible and credible ambassador for digital, data and technology across government.
