Job description
Responsibilities
  1. The principal duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients from and around York.
  2. At all times comply with the GMC requirements of Duties of a Doctor.
  3. Ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  4. Undertake duties as defined within the job description in so far as practicable and in agreement with your lead clinician and research mentor(s).
  5. Be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of any Trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.
  6. On commencement ensure personal attendance at the Trust's Corporate Induction.
  7. Participate in the Trust's statutory and mandatory training programme.
  8. Be responsible for the clinical management of in and out patients under your care.
  9. Comply with Trust policies and procedures where appropriate.

The post holder will have no elective commitment and will be expected to conduct research. The on-call rota will be 1:9, split into two shifts – 8am to 8pm and 8pm to 8am – supported by the surgical registrar. The role will entail a combination of academic and clinical work, with an initial 30:70 split that may be reviewed based on satisfactory progress of the research work.

The post holder will be required to keep up-to-date with current knowledge and practice, attend clinical meetings and teaching sessions within the department, and participate in audit and "in-service" training of other healthcare professionals. Deputising for absent colleagues and performing additional duties in emergencies or unforeseen circumstances may be required. Availability for irregular commitments outside normal rostered duties will also be expected.

Qualifications

A dynamic core trainee who has completed foundation training. This 2‑year post allows the core trainee to conduct a piece of supervised research while gaining more clinical experience before their ST application. By the end of the candidate's tenure, the trainee should have excelled in all core surgical competencies and be in an enviable position for competitive entry into higher surgical training.

DBS Checks

Successful candidates will confirm whether to pay in a single amount or in instalments. The current standard check cost is £27.38 and the enhanced check is £55.38.
