Job description

We are hiring! Circet Ireland and UK's Power Division are currently recruiting a Contract Support Operative to Join our Team in Northern Ireland. The Contract Support Operative provides essential support to overhead line and power network crews by managing materials, tools, equipment, and site compounds in a safe, compliant, and efficient manner. The role supports the delivery of overhead power network works in line with DNO standards, safety rules, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
Operational & Crew Support
  • Support overhead line crews by coordinating the issue, return, and movement of materials to and from sites.
  • Manage stock levels within site compounds, ensuring overhead line materials (e.g. poles, conductors, fittings, insulators) are available, correctly stored, and accurately recorded.
  • Prepare materials for planned, fault, and emergency overhead power network works to minimise delays to operational crews.
Tools, Plant & Equipment
  • Maintain, inspect, and care for tools, plant, and equipment used on overhead power network contracts.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are compliant with company procedures, DNO requirements, and statutory regulations (including LOLER and PUWER where applicable).
  • Remove defective or unsafe equipment from service and coordinate repair, testing, or replacement as required.
Site Compound Management
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, organisation, and security within overhead power network site compounds.
  • Ensure compounds comply with health, safety, environmental, and DNO/client standards.
  • Carry out regular compound inspections, supporting internal and client audits and addressing non-compliances promptly.
Waste, Scrap & Environmental Compliance
  • Manage waste segregation within site compounds in line with environmental legislation and DNO requirements.
  • Control all scrap materials returned from site, including conductors, steelwork, crossarms, and fittings.
  • Ensure scrap is accurately recorded, securely stored, and prepared for collection by approved waste contractors, maintaining full traceability.
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Work in accordance with electricity industry safety rules, company procedures, and DNO policies.
  • Support a strong safety culture within compounds, ensuring safe systems of work are followed at all times.
  • Promote environmental responsibility and sustainability across overhead power network operations.
General Duties
  • Liaise closely with supervisors, planners, and contract managers to support operational delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records for stock, tools, equipment, and waste movements.
  • Carry out additional duties as required to support overhead power network contracts.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
  • Experience working in a utilities or power networks environment.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental compliance in a safety-critical setting.
  • Experience managing materials, compounds, or operational support activities.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
Desirable:
  • Experience supporting overhead line or distribution network operations.
  • Familiarity with DNO standards, procedures, and safety rules.
  • Relevant certifications such as EUSR/CSCS, manual handling, or plant/forklift licences.
