Contested Probate Solicitor (3+ PQE)
Location: Altrincham
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Contested Probate Solicitor (3+ years PQE) to join our growing Private Client & Litigation team in Altrincham. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in contentious trusts and probate matters, excellent client-care skills, and the ability to manage a busy and complex caseload with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Handle a varied caseload of contentious probate and trust disputes, including:
  • Challenges to the validity of wills
  • Claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975
  • Executor/beneficiary disputes
  • Proprietary estoppel and undue influence claims
  • Removal of executors/trustees
  • Disputes regarding estate administration and trust management
  • Provide clear, strategic advice to clients, often in sensitive and emotionally charged circumstances.
  • Draft pleadings, witness statements, settlement agreements and correspondence.
  • Manage cases through all stages of the litigation process, including mediation and alternative dispute resolution.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider Private Client, Dispute Resolution and Tax teams.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring the delivery of high-quality legal services.
  • Contribute to business development activities, including networking, seminars, and marketing initiatives.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales with 3+ years PQE, ideally within contentious probate or commercial litigation
  • Strong knowledge of the Inheritance Act, Trusts & Estates law, and relevant civil procedure rules.
  • Demonstrable experience of running cases independently and confidently.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
  • Empathetic and professional approach to client care.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work efficiently under pressure.
  • A proactive, collaborative mindset with a commitment to delivering exceptional service.
