Job Overview
This post is for a 0.6 WTE Consultant Psychiatrist working within the South Camden Core Locality Team covering the Intensive Psychosis pathway. This is a replacement post with the current post holder taking on the position of the Clinical Director for the division. The post-holder will be part of a multidisciplinary team which includes both statutory and voluntary sector roles and provides holistic care to patients in a primary care setting aligned to the South and Central Primary Care Networks in Camden.
The post is based at The Margarete Centre, 108 Hampstead Road, London NW1 2LS, and supports the South Camden Core Community Mental Health Team.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide consultant input and clinical leadership to maintain clinical standards at the locality teams.
- Assess and manage patients under the care of the locality team relevant to their pathway.
- Assist with diagnosis, formulation, medication reviews, Dialog+ care planning, management plans, risk assessments, safety plans (formerly crisis plans), and self-help plans as required.
- Offer advice and support to PCN GPs and practice staff regarding assessment and management of mental health difficulties; this may include case discussions, joint consultations and bespoke training.
- Maintain effective communication with GPs, primary care staff, patients and their carers.
- Work flexibly within timetabled hours to prioritise urgent clinical matters.
- Carry out Mental Health Act and domiciliary assessments as required.
- Play a key role in implementing improved linkage between primary and secondary care services.
- Liaise with local voluntary services as part of the core community teams model.
- Provide clinical input to multi-disciplinary case conferencing for patients managed mainly in primary care.
- Engage with local service user participation models.
- Participate in management activities and governance processes related to locality teams, including audits and quality improvement projects.
- Support the performance of the team and contribute to the development of clinical pathways and priorities of the service line.
Qualifications and Experience
Education/Qualifications/Registration – Essential
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a license to practice. Must be on the specialist register or within 6 months of gaining a Certificate of Completion of Training
- Section 12(2) and Approved Clinician status (or eligibility) – qualifies to act as a Responsible Clinician
- Registered with Royal College of Psychiatrists CPD programme and in good standing
- Shared Services training up to date to be an approved trainer/clinical supervisor
Education/Qualifications/Registration – Desirable
- Membership of Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent higher qualification in psychiatry
- Other relevant post-graduate qualification (incl. those gained outside the UK)
- Trained as an Educational Supervisor for doctors in training
- Training as a Consultant mentor
Knowledge & Experience – Essential
- Knowledge and observance of the GMC Good Medical Practice
- Clinical knowledge of the full range of mental disorders
- Experience in assessing complex cases involving severe and enduring mental illness with significant risk histories
- Expertise in evidence-based treatment and case management options including pharmacotherapy
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and safeguarding practices
- Experience in workplace-based assessments of doctors in training
- Knowledge of clinical commissioning and external organisations interfacing with an NHS Trust
- Experience in organising and chairing meetings
- Good understanding of Trust governance structures, especially clinical governance
- Understanding of the role of research within the service and willingness to participate as appropriate
Knowledge & Experience – Desirable
