Overview
Substantive Consultant Psychiatrist to work across Willow Ward (inpatient rehabilitation) and the Open Mental Health Rehabilitation Team. Full-time post (10 PA per week) based at various locations across the county. The service is considering full-time four-day patterns and partial remote working to support wellbeing. The post-holder will have an office, laptop, mobile, dedicated administrative and secretarial support, and will collaborate with a full multi-disciplinary team providing clinical leadership input. On‑call rota duties include senior medical and Responsible Clinician cover for the inpatient wards and S12 MHA work in Trust premises and the community. The on-call rota is 1 in 11, 5pm–9am on weekdays and 9am Saturday to 9am Monday; participation is encouraged but not contractually required.
Responsibilities
- Provide consultant leadership to Willow Ward and the Open Mental Health Rehabilitation Team and support the service expansion with the Clinical Director and Service Manager.
- Deliver community strategy as services expand, maintain an active caseload with Open Mental Health Rehabilitation Team and patients on Willow Ward, and offer consultation services to partner services and agencies.
- Maintain AC/RC responsibilities for patients in the community under the Mental Health Act framework.
- Collaborate with senior clinical colleagues to define roles and responsibilities, ensure clarity of team objectives, safety, and open discussion of problems.
- Ensure effective communication within and outside the team and coordinate information flow for timely updates.
- Promote team contributions, shared decision-making, and mutual support; coordinate patient care across teams and manage risks within the team’s area of responsibility.
- Monitor and review team performance, address deficiencies, and support a culture of learning from mistakes.
- Provide cross-cover for planned leave and respect colleagues’ contributions to maintain patient trust.
- Participate in locality business planning and contribute to broader trust strategic planning; prioritise clinical governance within the area of responsibility.
- Undertake administrative duties related to patient care and record clinical activity accurately and promptly; participate in locality and wider mental health service planning and annual appraisals; attend the Trust academic programme as part of CPD.
- Maintain GMC registration and MHA Section 12(2) approval; participate in job plan reviews and collaborate with local managers to support efficient service delivery.
- Comply with Trust policies, procedures, standing orders, and financial instructions; contribute to financial planning and service development.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Medical Degree and Royal College membership, or equivalent
- Full GMC Registration with a license to practice at time of applying
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT
- Depth and breadth of clinical experience; ability to lead and develop the service; capacity to provide high-quality care
- Experience in a relevant special interest; ability to provide dedicated non-residential on-call cover (with internal cover); capable of working without direct supervision where appropriate
