Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a brand-new acute Mental Health service as a Consultant Psychiatrist. You will help shape care pathways and build the culture alongside the senior leadership team. The role involves providing treatment for women and men who may have suffered trauma and are affected by mental disorders, with responsibilities including patient assessment, treatment, discharge, medication management, quality assurance, and leading the CPA and ICR process.

Main duties

As the Consultant Psychiatrist, you will assume Responsible Clinician (RC) duties for Dunnock View, with the support of non-consultant grade doctors and the Lead Consultant Psychiatrist. You will support clinical governance processes and contribute to the development of the service. Responsibilities include ensuring patients admitted are assessed, treated, and discharged safely, medication management, quality assurance, handling complaints and co-production, delivering NICE guidance, and leading and managing the CPA and ICR process to ensure full quality standards. You will also participate in the On Call Consultant rota.

If you are a Consultant Psychiatrist with experience of working with people in inpatient settings who may be treated under the Mental Health Act and are interested in providing treatment for women and men who may have suffered trauma and are affected by mental disorders, join the new team at Dunnock View. This role includes:

  • Assuming RC duties for Dunnock View with support from the team
  • Supporting clinical governance and service development
  • Ensuring safe assessment, treatment, and discharge of admitted people
  • Medication management
  • Quality assurance, complaints handling, and co-production
  • Delivery of NICE guidance
  • Leading and managing CPA and ICR to ensure quality standards
  • On-call availability as part of the consultant rota
Qualifications

To be successful, you will need to be medically qualified (MRC Psychiatry or equivalent) with:

  • Innovation and the ability to initiate corporate decisions
  • Understanding of current developments in psychiatry and mental health
  • Knowledge of change management, relevant legislation, contemporary issues in mental health, and purchaser/provider contractual issues
  • Previous Consultant experience
