Job description
Overview

The post-holder will provide medical leadership to the North CAMHS team within the Integrated Children’s Service, working closely with consultant colleagues in CAMHS and Paediatrics, CAMHS MDTs and alongside Managers. The post-holder will provide Consultant Psychiatrist level clinical assessment and treatment to children and young people with general psychiatric disorders in City Care Centre, Peterborough.

Responsibilities
  • The post-holder will provide medical leadership to the North CAMHS team within the Integrated Children’s Service, working closely with consultant colleagues in CAMHS and Paediatrics, CAMHS MDTs and alongside Managers.
  • The post-holder will provide Consultant Psychiatrist level clinical assessment and treatment to children and young people with general psychiatric disorders in City Care Centre, Peterborough at approximately 1 new case per week.
  • Work mainly with the Core North team. Considerations can be made to allocate some PAs to work with the Neurodevelopmental team (ADHD pathway).
  • Attend and shape team meetings to ensure robust clinical governance activities are maintained, including appropriate CPD slots arranged by the Team Manager in collaboration with senior clinicians.
  • Link with the Home Treatment Team and the Crisis Team; support IST workers to formulate cases and plan patient care as the patient’s Tier 3 consultant.
  • Programmed Activities (2.5 PA or pro-rata) allocated for CPD, audit, clinical governance, supervision, research and other supporting professional activities. Of this, 1.5 PA (or pro-rata) is mandatory; an additional 1 PA (or pro-rata) is allocated to SPAs that benefit professional development and Trust governance.
  • Engage in CPD activities, termly CPD events, and opportunities within the Trust’s governance structure (e.g., Ethics Committee, Clinical Audit, NICE Implementation Group, Medicines Management Committee) and Lead Clinician roles as appropriate.
  • Train Core, Specialty and GP trainees including acting as Consultant Supervisor; contribute to CPFT’s Core Training scheme and East of England Higher Training Scheme; may train GP trainees in Secondary Care if opportunity arises.
  • Contribute to daytime Duty Consultant rota with Consultant colleagues to ensure cover for duty CAMHS practitioners and paediatric wards for urgent assessments and advice.
  • Participate in the Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist out-of-hours on-call rota (currently 1 in 8) paid at Band A, with a 5% supplement; provide advice/supervision to doctors in training grades and duty CAMHS practitioners; respond promptly to on-call calls and attend hospital sites as required.
  • Contribute to the teaching and training of STs, CTs, medical students and MDT members.
  • CTs and STs rotate within the department; opportunity to undertake the role of Clinical and Educational Supervisor for doctors in training.
  • Access to admin support via the Peterborough Admin Hub; Core and Neurodevelopmental service have dedicated administrators.
  • Provide consultation to multi-agency colleagues working with children and young people and respond to safeguarding needs in line with local and national standards.
  • Maintain high-quality clinical records and participate in administrative duties related to patient care and service operations.
  • Collaborate with medical colleagues to maintain service continuity in the absence of departmental colleagues due to annual leave, study leave and sickness.
