Job summary

A leading mental health care organization in Wales is seeking a part-time Consultant Psychiatrist to cover low secure services at Llanarth Court Hospital. The successful candidate will join a dedicated team and participate in clinical governance while providing care. Requirements include being a fully registered medical practitioner, a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and experience in forensic psychiatry is desirable. This role offers a flexible part-time schedule of 26.25 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • On or eligible for the Specialist Register (or within six months of achieving their CCT at the time of interview).
  • Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983, preferably in Wales.
  • Experience in forensic psychiatry is desirable.

Job description

You will be reporting to the Medical Director. You will be joining the 4 experienced full-time forensic consultants and two part-time consultants at the hospital, supported by a full-time resident doctor who provides out-of-hours cover. Each ward has a full multidisciplinary team (MDT), with a psychologist, occupational therapist and social worker. The hospital has a well-established system of clinical governance and a quality improvement programme.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will actively participate in clinical governance at both ward and hospital levels. The on-call rota is 1 in 5 (non-resident) and covers Llanarth Court, Priory Hospital Cardiff, and Ty Cwm Rhondda. While the Resident Doctor at Llanarth handles most medical issues, occasional attendance may be required. Priory Hospital Cardiff is a bespoke therapeutic unit with up to four patients, and Ty Cwm Rhondda is a 20-bed low secure unit.

Job responsibilities

A vacancy has arisen for a Consultant Psychiatrist, the role is based at Llanarth Court Hospital and initially to cover low secure service, in the future there is an opportunity to work on both male and female medium secure services on the same site.

This is a part-time role working 26.25 hours per week.
