An esteemed NHS Trust is seeking a Consultant Physician in Nephrology & Medicine to join a dedicated team. This role offers flexible full-time or part-time options and involves providing quality care for renal patients. The ideal candidate will have GMC Registration and experience in nephrology, working within a multi-disciplinary team. The trust is located in a beautiful suburb near London, providing an excellent environment for both work and leisure.
We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant Physician in Nephrology & Medicine on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Medicine department.
Our client's Stone and Kidney Centre (SKC) was opened in October 2013 aiming to provide dedicated and multi-disciplinary care for patients with a wide range of Urological and Renal disease. The clinical area consists of Redwood Ward, a 15 bedded Ward with 2 haemodialysis spaces, a lithotripsy machine and separate procedure rooms dedicated for both Urology and Nephrology.
The renal team will provide acute haemodialysis to patients with acute kidney injury stage 3, step-down patients from ITU, and repatriations from the regional renal unit at KCH. Furthermore, maintenance dialysis will be provided for existing haemodialysis patients who are acutely unwell and admitted to the client's main site. Some 30 renal biopsies are performed annually at the trust's main site.
The team consists of the consultants, a F1, a SHO level doctor and a trust Specialty registrar supported by a number of Clinical Nurse Specialists, covering anaemia, CKD and low clearance work.
The nephrology consultants shared amongst themselves the responsibilities in providing 24/7 inpatient care to the 10 bedded Level 1.5 HDU in Laurel Ward. In addition, the nephrology team also provides inpatient general medical care for up to 8 patients on Juniper Ward and participates in the acute medical rota (the nephrology team will be on call 1:16).
Most of the medical admissions to the hospital are non-elective patients and many are over 75 years old. The hospital operates a needs related policy. After initial triage and assessment in the Clinical Decisions Unit (CDU) or Emergency Dept. they are allocated to specialist wards.
The on-call rotation is shared between the establishments of consultant physicians. During the daytime the consultant is free of other fixed elective duties to focus on the acute medical take when on-call. Cover can often be provided by the Acute Physician to allow afternoon clinical sessions to continue. Generally, post take ward rounds occur two times daily.
The trust operates a Hospital at Night team to ensure the night time is effectively covered. The acute inpatient service is supported by ward based firms. Each ward has four to six junior doctors (Foundation Doctors and GP or Core Medical Trainees) and one or more Specialist Registrars.
Our client is based in a beautiful suburb borough on the outskirts of London with close proximity to big international airports, along with access to highly reputable public and private schools within the area.
