A leading healthcare organization in Huddersfield seeks a Consultant Oncologist to join an expanding team. This permanent, full-time role involves managing oncology patient care, providing teaching for postgraduate doctors, and contributing to multi-disciplinary teams. The ideal candidate will have MRCP or equivalent, specialist registration in oncology, and significant clinical experience. A competitive salary ranging from £109,725 to £145,478 is offered, the application deadline is December 17, 2025.
The closing date is 17 December 2025
We are advertising for 2 posts to expand our current workforce of ten substantive Consultant Medical Oncologists and four visiting Clinical Oncologists.
Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust has been a pioneer in the provision of DGH-based oncology services since 1996, when the current department was established. The service was cited as a model for cancer care in the RCP publication "The Cancer Patient's Physician - Recommendations for the development of medical oncology in England and Wales" (2000).
Over the past 36 months, CHFT has been working collaboratively with Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust to support the delivery of sustainable oncology services across the wider geography. The two organisations continue to work closely together and these roles, along with the wider workforce, will help to support ongoing development.
We are open to applicants with a specialist interest in any tumour site, and the post-holder's own specialist interests will be considered within the requirements of the current and anticipated service configuration.
Applications are encouraged from experienced consultants wishing to take up a new challenge or newly accredited consultants who will be supported through our highly regarded development programmes. The post holder is encouraged to develop his/her own sub-specialty interest.
It is anticipated that this will be a 10‑PA full‑time post, although less than full‑time working options can be discussed. There will be a requirement to travel to multiple sites where patient care is provided.
There is a current 1:9 Consultant of the week rota, and a 1:9 out‑of‑hours on‑call rota will decrease to a 1:10 or a 1:11 frequency as new postholders commence in their role. In the COW week the post holder will work on the inpatient oncology ward and provide a focal point for oncology queries.
Applicants must be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if in a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the GMC Specialist Register to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee. Applicants must continue to hold a Licence to Practice.
Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust is an exceptional place to work with many amazing teams of hard‑working and dedicated staff, delivering high standards of patient care. We have made significant changes in the way we work to meet the challenges of the changing NHS, and were rated by the Care Quality Commission as Good in June 2018.
This is an exciting time for our continuing development and we are ensuring that the organisation is fit for purpose by introducing and embedding new skills and behaviours.
The Department of Health and Social Care has awarded capital funding to invest in local health services at both Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. This is a significant investment and an opportunity to enhance services for our populations in Calderdale and Huddersfield and West Yorkshire for generations to come. To find out more, please visit Our Future Plans – CHFT (cht.nhs.uk).
The post is based at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust but to enable cross cover of colleagues some cross‑site working will be necessary. Office accommodation will be provided in the post holder's base unit.
Please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
